How to Read a Tyre Size

A tyre marking such as 205/55 R16 contains several measurements. 205 is the tyre width in millimetres, 55 is the sidewall height as a percentage of width, R indicates radial construction, and 16 is the wheel diameter in inches.

The load index and speed rating appear after the rim size. Always compare the tyre specification with the vehicle manufacturer's recommended specification before buying.
